Misfit
Who is Misfit?
Our rescue is proudly named in honour of Misfit, a remarkable large black cat whose gentle, inquisitive, affectionate and unforgettable personality continues to inspire our mission. Though black cats are too often overlooked, this gentle giant is impossible to miss.
Misfit started his life living with an elderly owner who shared her home with several Jack Russell terriers, and he grew up as a true member of their pack—learning to sit on command, play fetch, and greet the world with a dog-like loyalty and confidence that made him stand out from the rest.

Unfortunately, when his beloved owner passed away, Misfit was passed from one family member to another until a desperate social media post threatened euthanasia if a home couldn’t be found by the next day, due to his “naughty behaviour.”

So at around five years old, Misfit found his way into the life of one of our founding volunteers, and the name he carried proved fitting; Misfit’s mischievous brilliance quickly revealed itself. He could open doors, cupboards, and even fridges, turn on taps, flush toilets, and would happily steal a bag of crisps right from your hands if you weren’t paying attention. He tested patience, certainly—but he also opened eyes. Through him, his new owner and everyone who knows him gained a profound appreciation for the intelligence, individuality, and depth of personality cats and other animals can possess.

Today, at sixteen years old, Misfit is an elderly gentleman who prefers warmth, comfort, and long cuddles that take up your entire lap over his old trouble-making adventures. His long and happy life stands as a beautiful reminder that the animals others overlook often shine the brightest, bringing immeasurable joy, lessons, and memories to those fortunate enough to love them.

Misfit didn’t just transform his own story; he became the spark that ignited a lifelong passion for rescuing animals within our team. Naming the rescue after him is both a tribute to the second chance he was given and a symbol of the second chances we strive to offer every animal who needs one
